Different Types of Flood Barriers
When looking to protect your home or business from flooding, flood barriers are always a safe and effective option, but there are a huge range of different types with different purposes. A quick Google search and you’ll see that there’s sand-filled barriers, water-filled barriers, silicone barriers and so on. We’ve created a guide, so you can distinguish the different types and make sure you choose the right solution for your property.
The Stormguard Floodplan Barriers
The flood barriers that we supply are designed to block water from traditional entrances to a building. Our range is suited to windows, doors, garages and even garden gates and are the industry leading barriers to stop floodwater entering the home. Unlike other types of flood barrier, ours are not a permanent fixture on your home and can be slotted into place in the event of flood warnings and removed when not in use.
Flood Block Barrier
Unless you’re purchasing flood barriers for a local authority or a private road, these flood barriers are probably not for you. You may have seen them on the wayside of the road, these red and white blockades stand at least half a metre high and are often filled with water or sand to weigh them down. Designed to slot together in a line, these cubic styled barriers are used to prevent water from penetrating open areas and could be employed domestically to protect a large garden or perimeter of the house.
Water Gate Flood Barriers
A type of inflatable wall, these flood barriers are much smaller in depth, usually standing around 35cm high. Once rolled out, they ‘self deploy’ slightly inflating and using the weight of the flood water to hold the water back with a unique design. The water lifts the top of the barrier whilst at the same time weighing the base down, forming a seal. Available in varying sizes they can be used to protect a perimeter, between two walls or against the natural slope of the land to prevent surging.
