Basements and cellars in older style houses are often damp and unliveable. Although they are usually large spaces, these cellars are not usable beyond basic storage – and even that can be difficult with moisture pouring in through the walls. This is because when walls are below ground, they retain water from the surrounding earth, which makes its way into the cellar. If you’re looking for a solution to this problem, Stormguard Floodplan offer our Tanking services, where we create a waterproof membrane over the walls, creating a dry, liveable space for your basement.

What is Cellar Tanking?

Tanking, or tanking slurry, is the name used for the liquid waterproof membrane that can be applied to the walls and floor of a basement. As well as being a solution to creating a liveable basement, taking is also essential for homes with cellars that are at risk of flooding. This may be because your home lies in a flood risk area where flood water can enter the cellar from upper rooms, or from the water table below. At Stormguard Floodplan, our tanking can be retro fitted in listed buildings or applied to new builds, and is suitable for all types of basements regardless of size.

How Does Tanking Work?

Our multi-coat slurry mix is specially formulated as a complete waterproofing solution. Made from a special blend of polymers and modifiers that are malleable and enhance adhesion to the wall, our experts will apply the mixture in between two coats of impenetrable cement render. After it has been applied and completely dried, it will act as a strong barrier to prevent water entering through the walls and floor. Our waterproof tanking mix is made from recycled materials, which makes it compliant with the Code for Sustainable Homes.
