Flood Gadgets Save Properties at Risk
Meet Mr Nosey
Mr Nosey is a remote controlled robot created by the Environment Agency. He is one of many flood gadgets and was invented to investigate why flooding is being caused. Mr Nosey is very small but packs a punch, weighing in at 30kg.
The robot is sent into places that humans can’t reach in order to find the causes of flooding. Places such as underground culverts, sewage pipes and blocked tunnels are just some of the places that he tackles. He can fit into spaces as small as 6 inches in diameter and uses a camera which has been fitted on his nose to help people see tunnels that are more than a mile long.
There are over a million miles of culverts in England that are able to cause floods if they become blocked. The reason that Mr Nosey weighs 30kg is to prevent him from being swept away by fast-flowing water.
The robot, which weighs 30kg to prevent it from being swept away in fast-flowing water, travels through underground tunnels while sending real-time images to the surface so that Environment Agency staff can assess the damage or blockages below.
